    iPhone May Be Used More Than You Know

    Today, an iPhone (or Android phone) is not just a "nice to have", but has become the "norm". With email, calendars, internet, and seemingly unlimited applications at your fingertips, these smart phones have become a quick and easy way of always staying connected and the adoption rate of individuals using them is astounding!

    Currently, over 40% of all website traffic is from a smart phone. This percentage, although already huge, is continuing to grow at a rate of over 23% each year! The point here, is that people are looking at your website through these smart phones and in doing so, wouldn't you want your website to look presentable in this format?

    Websites are often VERY small and illegible in these smart phones, thereby forcing the user to enlarge/zoom their screens, etc...which can become too time consuming...The user will often leave your site to go to another that already has an interface set up for these phones with legible text and form-fitting content.

    Effectively Managing Your Website
    Content Management Systems (CMS) not only provide a site owner the ability to add, edit, and delete text and images on their website, but also provide a way for people to connect through community forums, discussion boards, file shares, and RSS feeds.

    What some people don't know, is that keeping this data current plays a major role in your website's search engine optimization (SEO). Changing text and images frequently on your website can dramatically increase your search engine rankings!

    In addition to making sure that you update your website with new text and images, you may want to consider having your web designer build you a newsletter, where you will be able to keep track of hundreds of email addresses and send out monthly/quarterly news to those email addresses.     Does Your Website Have A Content Management System?

    Instead of having a static, unchanging website, CMS provides an always changing, interactive virtual environment that truly captivates a web audience and tremendously increases search engine rankings!

    What Other Website Advertisements Aren't Telling You...
    Companies such as INTUIT and Go Daddy advertise a quick, easy, and inexpesive way to create your own website and get found on the web. What companies like these aren't telling you is that you are stuck within the confines of using their "templates" without any ability to change layouts, or content. after doing some more research, there have also been thousands of complaints about these companies stating that implementation was a nightmare, customer service didn't exist, and if you try to cancel your subscription, or free trial, you just simply can't...They keep charging your credit card (Go Daddy and INTUIT are both very well known for this)!

    Additionally, these companies state that they offer personalized flexibility in their design concepts, but as soon as you need something custom done (which everyone needs at some point or another...A contact form, discussion board, , or even a logo, etc...) they charge you thousands of dollars and never complete the work. One individual lost over $3,000 last year to INTUIT to create a custom 5 page website and INTUIT never completed the work! When the customer calls, he is just shifted around from operator to operator after a ridiculous amount of electronic prompts, only to end up being disconnected/hung up on.

    My point here is not to try to slam these other companies, but to create some awareness of the scams that are out there and what to watch out for. I can personally relate to the frustration that these individuals feel and don't want anyone else to experience it.

    Are You Benefitting from Pay-Per-Click Advertising?
    Pay-Per-Click advertising can be tremendously lucrative and offer almost instant top-rankings within search engines as well as multiple market-targeted websites across any targeted domain.

    Pay-Per-Click is a cost effective solution that can result in almost instant sales and over time, large boosts in revenue. Below are some benefits of Pay-Per-Click advertising and why you should think more about getting this set up for your business.

    Small Initial Investment
    In general, the search engines don't charge anything to insert a PPC advertisement. They may have a small initial fee to set up an account, but after that you only have to pay each time someone actually clicks on your ad. It kind of works like a bank account..You deposit $10, $20, or even $1,000 and as your ad gets clicked, small amounts will be deducted from your account balance. The typical cost per click is somewhere in the neighborhood of about $0.14 or so.

    The Design and Structure of Your Website is Important!
    Did you know that the way your website is structured can affect your rankings in search engines such as Google, Yahoo, etc...? These days, with the huge amount of internet traffic and competing websites out there, it is more important than ever to make sure that your website design / structure is search engine friendly and easily found.

    Although there are many things to consider when designing a website for search engine optimization, I've listed a few key items that your web designer should be doing for you and for those of you who don't utilize Shaffer Web Design, it might be beneficial for you to ask your web designer the following;

    1) Are keywords being included in the first paragraph of my website's text?. Search engines expect that your first paragraph will contain the important keywords for the document -- where most people write an introduction to the content of the page.

    2) Are all my website page titles and descriptions the same?. Make sure that the titles / descriptions of each web page within your website are unique. This will ensure that all pages within your website will be found when doing a search in Google, etc...

    3) Do my website images have meta data associated with them?. It is important to have meta data (text) associated with your images. This helps your site be more accessible to site-impaired visitors and gives additional clues to the search engines. The meta data attributes help get your images ranked higher for image search as well.
